German Chancellor: The War in Ukraine Continues
In his statement at a press conference in Berlin, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz noted that there are currently no signs of an immediate end to Russia's war against Ukraine. He lowered expectations for a swift cessation of hostilities, expressing hopes for successful negotiations between the parties to the conflict in the Vatican.

The Chancellor emphasized the importance of Germany's active role in the peaceful resolution of the conflict. However, the recent refusal of US President Donald Trump to exert pressure on Russia has been a severe blow to Merz and other European leaders.
Strengthening Sanctions Against Russia
The German government insists that sanction pressure on Russia continues in an intensified mode. However, it is unclear how effective the new measures of the European Commission in the fields of energy and finance will be.
