«I rely exclusively on intelligence data». Head of Zhytomyr OVA assessed the threat from Belarus.

Fortification works in the Zhytomyr region are fully completed, which lasted since the end of 2023. According to the head of the Zhytomyr OVA Vitaliy Bunechko, the region is ready for any threats from Belarus. He noted that 99% of the work, which began in 2023, was completed in the summer of 2024. Vitaliy Bunechko also noted that he has reliable information about the situation on the border with Belarus.
The head of the Zhytomyr OVA mentioned that he was at the border during the construction of fortifications together with his deputies. He also noted that the construction continued even during the occupation of part of the Zhytomyr region. According to Vitaliy Bunechko, works on the border with Belarus were carried out according to military standards, although they are not military engineers.
Vitaliy Bunechko also noted that the platoon strong points, which were selected independently, will not require reconstruction as they meet military standards. He emphasized that the border in the Zhytomyr region is fully ready for any threats from Belarus.
Bunechko stated that he relies on intelligence data, not on threatening statements from Lukashenko. He noted that he always verifies information from the media through special services and military command. In addition, he noted that the exercises of Belarus do not pose a threat to the Zhytomyr region.
Earlier, Vitaliy Bunechko reported that the situation in Zhytomyr remains under control, despite the early resignation of former mayor Serhiy Sukhomlyn.
