A 116-Year-Old Woman, Recognized as the Oldest Person in the World, Has Died in Japan.


A woman has died in Japan who became the oldest person in the world, according to the Guinness World Records. Her name was Tomiko Itooka.
She was 116 years old at the Time of her death. She was born on May 23, 1908, in Osaka and in her last years of life lived in a nursing home.
Tomiko died of old age. She became the oldest living person in Japan in December 2023 after the death of Fushi Tatsumi, who was also 116 years old and from Japan.
Later, in September 2024, she was recognized as the oldest person in the world after the death of 117-Year-Old Maria Branyas Morera from Spain.
In November 2024, the oldest member of the local imperial family in Japan, Princess Yuriko, also passed away at the age of 101. No details were provided regarding her death, but Japanese media reported that she died of pneumonia.
