Putin allowed a compromise on security guarantees for Ukraine.

Putin's representative's position: security guarantees for Ukraine are possible, but NATO membership is not
Vladimir Putin's representative, Kirill Dmitriev, stated that the Russian leader and his team understand the necessity of security guarantees for Ukraine. He made this statement during an interview with the American television channel Fox News. Dmitriev also expressed gratitude to the administration of President Donald Trump for progress in the dialogue with Russia.
'What Trump's team did - they understood what space there could be for decisions, and they achieved the first de-escalation in the conflict, which consists of stopping strikes on energy infrastructure between Russia and Ukraine. So we are having good discussions. Our diplomats are also discussing possible outcomes,' Dmitriev said.
However, he denied the possibility of Ukraine's NATO membership. Responding to questions regarding security guarantees, he noted that while Russia is ready to consider this issue, Ukraine's NATO membership is 'absolutely impossible.' Nevertheless, Dmitriev did not rule out the possibility of other forms of security guarantees for Ukraine.
Further negotiations and dialogue between the USA and Russia regarding the situation in Ukraine are currently ongoing.
