More than a thousand former rugby players have filed lawsuits against sports federations over health problems following concussions. Representatives of the law firm representing the athletes claim that 725 former rugby players and 280 former rugby league players have joined the collective lawsuit.
The claimants suffer from a range of neurological conditions that alter their lives, including Parkinson's disease, chronic traumatic encephalopathy, and dementia. They assert that these injuries are a direct result of the concussions and moderate impacts they experienced during their playing careers. The plaintiffs argue that the governing bodies failed to take necessary steps to protect them from the consequences of concussions during the game, despite knowledge of the risksThe athletes are demanding compensation from World Rugby, the Rugby Football Union, the Welsh Rugby Union, the Rugby Football League, and other rugby organizations. This case started four years ago, and the next hearings will take place in July.It should be noted that the goalkeeper of the Spanish 'Las Palmas', Jasper Cillessen, suffered an injury that required surgery.
