The United Arab Emirates approached the French government with a request to provide its citizen Pavel Durov, founder of Telegram, whom the French authorities arrested at Paris-Le Bourget airport, with all necessary consular services urgently. This is stated in a statement by the country's Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs statement emphasizes that the UAE is closely monitoring the case of its citizen and prioritizes the well-being of its citizens, the protection of their interests, and providing them with all aspects of support, which is a key priority for the UAE.
Recall that French special services detained Pavel Durov, founder and CEO of the Telegram messenger, on Saturday evening at Le Bourget airport. Durov arrived from Azerbaijan and was arrested immediately after exiting a private plane.
French law enforcement accuses Telegram founder Pavel Durov of refusing to cooperate in the investigation of a series of crimes. According to the French prosecutor's office, Durov is charged with 12 articles.
Earlier, French President Emmanuel Macron commented for the first Time on the arrest of Telegram founder Pavel Durov in Paris. The President of France emphasized that this decision is made by judges, not politicians, and France supports freedom of expression within the law.
