205 soldiers left Ukraine
On May 6, 2025, Ukraine celebrated the return of 205 Ukrainian soldiers who had been captured in Russia. This was reported by the President of the country, Volodymyr Zelensky.
According to the head of state, among the released soldiers are young men and adults from various military units, including the defenders of Mariupol and the protectors of the oil and gas industry. This is the 64th exchange since the beginning of the Russian invasion of Ukraine and the fifth in 2025. Overall, since March 2022, Ukraine has managed to bring back 4757 of its citizens.
'They were scattered across many Russian regions, imprisoned by the prison system with a single task: to torment and destroy humanity,' emphasized President Zelensky.
Among the released military personnel are 3 officers and 202 soldiers. These soldiers represent various military formations of Ukraine and were held captive for various reasons, including injuries and serious illnesses. The exchange took place with the mediation of the United Arab Emirates, which facilitated this historic event.
It is important to note that May 6 is celebrated as Ukrainian Infantry Day, which has become symbolic for this exchange. The released soldiers will receive medical assistance, financial help, and the opportunity to undergo rehabilitation after their difficult experiences in captivity.
