Doctors at Ohmatdit operated on a girl with rare syndromes: one of them is found in only 102 children in the world.

In Lviv, a complex operation was performed on a one-and-a-half-year-old girl with two rare syndromes. One of them is registered in only 102 children worldwide. This was reported by the Lviv Regional Children's Clinical Hospital 'Ohmatdit'.
The girl named Polina came to Lviv from Rivne region. She is the third child in the family, and the parents found out about both syndromes only after her birth. The doctors did not warn about possible pregnancy problems.
Immediately after birth, Polina had defects such as extensive bleeding in the brain and weak lung function. Although the family faced many difficulties, they do not give up and try to do everything possible to improve the quality of the child's life.
Polina suffers from two rare syndromes - Pallister-Killian and Setre-Chotzen. Pallister-Killian syndrome causes defects in organs and body systems, hydrocephalus, intellectual disability, and developmental delay due to weak muscle tone. Setre-Chotzen syndrome changes the shape of the head and face due to fusion of the skull bones.
Unfortunately, there are currently no treatments for these syndromes. But defects can be corrected surgically and with medication.
Before the operation, Polina had feeding problems due to a cleft palate. She could not eat normally and constantly vomited. In addition, she had breathing problems, she often stopped breathing, and the oxygen level in her blood dropped.
Doctors emphasize that correcting the maxillofacial defect in such conditions is very dangerous, but at 'Ohmatdit' they decided to take on this responsibility.
After a successful operation, the girl can swallow, eat, and food no longer enters the airways, which improves her breathing.
According to her mother, Polina became more active after the operation. She can breathe normally through her nose, eat on her own, and sleep on her back.
Soon, doctors will also correct the child's ear problem.
In Lviv, doctors previously saved a pregnant woman with a heart tumor, and also performed surgery on a five-month-old baby.
