China calls on the US to cease official contacts with Taiwan
The spokesperson for the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Lin Jian, stated that China categorically opposes any form of official contacts between the United States and Taiwan. He emphasized that Beijing demands the US adhere to the one China principle and cease official communications with the authorities of the Chinese region of Taiwan.
Lin highlighted that China considers Taiwan to be part of its territory and of one China. He stated that China resolutely opposes any official contacts between the US and Taiwan. This position was emphasized by Lin while commenting on media reports about a Taiwanese delegation's visit to Washington for negotiations with representatives of President Donald Trump's administration.
The spokesperson for the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs called on the US to stop official contacts with Taiwan and refrain from creating new tensions. He noted that China's position on the Taiwan issue is clear and unchanging.
