Head of UGCC met with the Ecumenical Patriarch in Istanbul
The head of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church, Metropolitan Sviatoslav, had a meeting with the Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew in Istanbul. During the meeting, Sviatoslav presented the Patriarch with a fragment of a Russian drone shot down by the air defense over the Patriarchal Cathedral in Kyiv, according to the UGCC press service.
During the meeting, the leaders discussed the situation in Ukraine and legislative measures to protect the religious environment. They also discussed the relations between the UGCC and the Patriarchate of Constantinople.
An agreement on deepening cooperation and ecumenical dialogue was reached, especially in the context of the celebration of the 1700th anniversary of the Nicene Council and the planned meeting between Pope Francis and Patriarch Bartholomew.
At the end of the meeting, Sviatoslav and Bartholomew exchanged gifts. The head of the UGCC presented a fragment of the downed Russian drone and a book about the war in Ukraine. In turn, Bartholomew presented publications about the Ecumenical Patriarchate and an electronic publication on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of his patriarchal ministry.
It is worth noting that an explosion occurred in the Solomyanskyi district of Kyiv when a Russian drone hit a residential building, causing the upper floors to catch fire. This incident took place on the night of October 25, when Russian forces attacked Ukraine using drones.
