The de facto leader of Syria assessed the likelihood of elections after the fall of Assad's regime.

The drafting of a new Syrian Constitution may take up to 3 years - al-Sharaa
Ahmad al-Sharaa, the de facto leader of Syria, stated that the development of a new Constitution could take up to three years after the overthrow of Bashar Assad's regime. According to him, elections will only take place in four years.
Al-Sharaa also noted that organizing fair elections may take up to four years due to the need for a comprehensive population census. However, he is confident that significant improvements in public services will be noticeable as early as next year.
The opposition leader al-Sharaa explained that their goal is to transfer power as peacefully as possible to avoid a large number of casualties and population displacements. He also confirmed that the temporary government is negotiating with the Kurdish SDF forces to address issues in the northeast of the country and integrate these forces into the national army. The dissolution of the main opposition group 'Hay'at Tahrir al-Sham' has also been announced.
