Officials commented on the situation with the pollution of the Desna: is there a threat to Kyiv.

Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources of Ukraine Olena Kramarenko reported that the situation with pollution in the Seim and Desna rivers is gradually improving.
The oxygen level in the places where the pollution started to form on the Seim has already reached the standard of 4 mg per cubic decimeter, and fish mortality is no longer observed. In the Desna, there is a slowdown in the movement of pollution within the Chernihiv region. The area of the polluted spot has become more dispersed, and the smell is significantly less compared to the situation on the Seim.
According to Ukrhydrometcenter, pollution may reach the water intake points for Kyiv on September 14-16. However, Olena Kramarenko expressed hope that due to the slow movement of the polluted water, it will not reach the capital's water intake at all.
To improve the situation, 3 aeration installations have already been placed within the Chernihiv region, and work is underway to install them in the Kyiv region.
The collection of dead fish continues. According to the State Environmental Inspection, a total of more than 31 tons of fish have been collected: just over 12 tons in the Sumy region, and almost 19 tons in the Chernihiv region.
As of September 11, the pollution zone of the Desna reached the village of Ladynka in the Chernihiv region, and the water quality in the Seim is improving.
